A Prayer Card to Forgive Myself

Forgiving oneself can be a difficult thing to do. But I’ve noticed how when I’ve been unable to forgive myself for hurtful things I’ve said and done, it affects my level of anxiety. And when I am able to forgive myself, my anxiety is significantly reduced.

The following prayer is one I pray when I’m struggling to forgive myself.

Jesus, I desire to love. I desire to live in Your peace and freedom.
Jesus, You know the areas of my heart where I struggle to forgive.
You know I have been wounded and hurt. You see in my heart where I harbor anger, resentment, and a desire for revenge.
Jesus, because of those wounds, I judge others. Specifically, I have judged myself for _________________ [what was said and/or done]. That judgment is a sin. It leads me away from You so that I rely on myself, and in doing so, I become the judge of myself and others.
Jesus, I ask that You forgive me for this sin of judging myself. I offer to You the pain and hurt I experience from this judgment. Heal my wounded heart.
Jesus, I ask that You free me from any ties that bind me to this judgment and keep me from living in Your love and peace.
Jesus, help me to unite my suffering to Yours and to carry Your cross with You.
Jesus, I desire my salvation and eternal joy with You.
Jesus, I surrender myself into Your Most Sacred Heart. Fill me with Your hope and Your peace. Immerse me in Your healing mercy and love.
May I be all Yours. Now and forevermore. Amen.
