Prayer for Those Who Feel Despair, Hopeless or Suicidal

If you find yourself in deep darkness and in the depths of despair, you may at times contemplate how existing at all may be more than you can handle. But please remember, there is hope — there is always hope!

While it may not seem possible in the moment, Jesus will lead you out of the torment you are in. You only need to speak His name, ask for His hope, ask for the prayers of the His angels, and ask for the intercession of the saints who trusted in Him even when all the odds seemed to be against them.

If you find yourself in this place beyond all hope, here is a prayer for you.

Prayer for Those Who Feel Despair, Hopeless or Suicidal

Jesus,

I feel as though I am in pitch blackness. Despair fills my heart. No light can penetrate the darkness I am in. I feel all hope is lost. I no longer wish to be a part of this world. I feel like a burden to all, and I wish only to fade away until I am no more.

But oh, Jesus, even though I feel this and I cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel, come be with me now! Surround me with Your angels and with Your saints! Jesus, ask them to lock arm and arm around me, below me, above me — surrounding me in Your light and love.

I fear the darkness wishes to overshadow me until I give in to despair. Jesus, fill me with Your hope. Jesus, immerse me in Your Heart.

Show me the light You wish to lead me to. Inspire me to see there is hope that one day this darkness will lift. Help me to know that I will experience what it means to be truly loved and will feel like a burden no more.

Erase the dark thoughts from my mind and permeate me with Your Spirit. Jesus, however horrible I may feel at this moment, help me to rise and see You before me, gazing upon me in Your love and delighting in my existence.

Mary, my Blessed and Heavenly Mother, come be a mother to me now. Tender Mother, be my light that leads me to Jesus in my moments of despair. Mary, hold me close and never leave my side. Mary, allow me to feel your pure presence with me now, carrying me to Jesus so I can rest in His arms. Mary, my Mother, Mother of Jesus, pray for me.

St. Joseph, dear foster father of Jesus, you protected Him as a babe in His most vulnerable moments. St. Joseph, intercede on my behalf and pray for me now. Pray for me now in this very vulnerable moment when my heart is fragile and my life feels as though it may be lost. St. Joseph, pray for me.

St. Michael the Archangel, head of God’s army of angels, pray for me now. Surround me with His army of angels, so I may be immersed in the hope of heaven and the light of His love. St. Michael, intercede for me, and by the power of God cast away the darkness that seeks to overshadow me now.

Jesus, my Lord, my Savior, my God. I beg of You to have mercy on me. Guide me, lead me, call to my heart that is so broken and bruised. Jesus, You know my desire. You know I truly wish to live.

Jesus, have mercy on me. Jesus, I wish to live and know what it means to truly be loved and experience the joy of heaven. I surrender all my wounds of rejection, abandonment, betrayal, trauma, humiliation, and injustice to You. I place them in Your Most Sacred Heart.

Jesus, I rest in You.
Jesus, I hope in You.
Jesus, I surrender my heart and soul to You.

Jesus, I trust in You.
Jesus, I trust in You.
Jesus, I trust in You.

Amen.
