The Power of Three Words for Someone Struggling With Depression

Know someone who is struggling with depression?

If you do, say to them often what it is you love about them, what it is about them that brings you joy.

This should not be something they have to earn or something they have accomplished, just simply something about what makes them who they are – who they were created to be!

Maybe it’s their smile, their laugh, their kind heart, their quiet strength.

If they are sad, sit with them, even if they are silent, tell them you love them and say nothing else.

It is my feeling the greatest gift you can give a loved one who is suffering from depression is the gift of letting them know they are loved and they are worthy of being loved, even when they are down, depressed, sad, hopeless or in despair and even when their suffering and depression causes you suffering, inconveniences you, or causes you pain.

If you must give advice, do so only in conjunction with letting them know they are loved whether they follow it or not.

And when caring for your loved one exhausts you, hold on to the foot of the cross, where you will find the strength to endure the days and nights of worry. Know Jesus is not blind to your pain and weariness.

As I urge all who struggle with depression and anxiety to rest in the Heart of Jesus, I urge you to do this as well. It is where you will find the source of all comfort, healing, hope and pure love.

Amen! May God shower your son with His Healing Love and lead Him with His Peace. And may you be filled with God’s love and peace knowing your son is being taken care of by the Savior of the World.
