Anxiety, Healing and the Beatitudes: Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit [Video]

When I am anxious, I reflect on the beatitude, “Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3).

What does being “poor in spirit” mean?

To acknowledge and recognize we are completely dependent on God. For everything.

Listen in on my latest video reflection on how I’ve found this particular beatitude so healing for my anxiety.

Prayer for Healing

Jesus, thank You for reminding me in this beatitude, “blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven,” how I can obtain Your peace, by acknowledging my complete dependence upon You for everything.

I invite You into my heart.

I ask for the healing love of Your Most Sacred Heart to melt away all my anxiety and fears.

I trust in You, Jesus, and know I can taste the peace of heaven if only I surrender all to You.

Fill me with Your love, Your joy, Your eternal peace. Help me to be once and for all “poor in spirit,” so I may live forever in the kingdom of heaven.

Amen.
