First Friday Reflection on the Sacred Heart [May 2018]

The following are reflections on the Sacred Heart of Jesus based on excerpts taken from the Letters of Saint Margaret Mary of Alacoque, Apostle of the Sacred Heart. Reflections are posted every first Friday.

if you want to live wholly for Him and attain that perfection He desires of you, you must make a complete sacrifice of yourself and of all that you have, without reserve, to His Sacred Heart. You must no longer will anything but with the will of this most loving Heart, love nothing except with His love, act only according to the lights He gives you, undertake nothing without first asking His counsel and help. All the glory must be His. [Letter written to Mother Louise-Henriette de Soudeilles, at Moulins (From the monastery in Paray, November 3, 1684)]

Reflection: Jesus, I desire to give myself wholly to You. I know there are areas of my life I have yet to turn over completely to You, due to pride and self-love. Oh how my sins and wounds disturb my heart and the peace You wish to give me!

I am a weak, poor soul with a desire to love You alone, and yet, I harbor anger and resentment from deep wounds from my past. I no longer wish to be a slave to my wounds; I no longer wish to be tied to my sins of pride and self-love.

I surrender every part of myself to You. Purify my heart with the loving flames of Your Most Sacred Heart. Permeate every area where my wounds have infected my soul with Your light and love.

May my every breath be spent immersed in the Love of Your Heart. Use me as Your instrument to bring love and peace to the world. For this life means nothing if it is not lived solely and completely for You.

My dear Jesus, may glory come to You in each word I speak, each action I take, every thought that comes to my mind, and every longing of my heart which aches for Your Love alone!
